Option to not accrue paid vacation during time off

Our firm has a policy not to continuously accrue paid leave time when the employee is off. Our 30 days a year is based on a working year before you are entitled the 30 days as such 30 workings day before entitled the 2.5 leave days. If an employee was on unpaid leave for 2 months for example he would not accrue the 5 leave days he would have if working.
